More big hires at True Leaf

Lumby-based True Leaf Medicine continues to pad its professional team with high-profile hires, today announcing Don Chisholm as its chief marketing officer.

Chisholm is a branding expert who, through his creative agency Dossier, has worked with brands like Mike’s Hard Lemonade, Vega, and Constellation Brands.

True Leaf CEO Darcy Bomford says Chisholm will help the company develop “multiple branded platforms” and guide the company’s “overall innovation pipeline.”

Chisholm’s creative agency, Dossier, has also been named the company’s branding partner.

Meanwhile, True Leaf also announced the government relations firm Hill+Knowlton will work as its government relations advisors.

True Leaf is in the final stages of securing Health Canada approval to produce medical marijuana, and Bomford says the firm will “provide invaluable insight into the cannabis regulatory environment as we develop our medicinal cannabis product line and bring it to market.”

As the True Leaf company continues work on the 25,000-square-foot cannabis cultivation facilityit’s building in Lumby, it has brought on a series of well-known professionals to help with everything from product development to research and branding.

A few weeks ago the company announced Dr. Chris Spooner would head up a medical advisory board. Earlier in March True Leaf also hired a well-known industry advisor and new director of horticulture.

True Leaf has been manufacturing cannabis pet chews for years, but last year began a massive expansion, with an eye to both medical pot production and the pending legalization of pot in Canada.

In January it dropped $3.3 million on the 40-acre property it’s new production facility will sit on, using a portion of the proceeds from its recent $10 million round of Regulation A+ financing to pay for the site.

Bomford has said in the past that, once True Leaf gets Health Canada approval, it will be able to produce about 2,500 kilograms of dried cannabis a year.

As its production grows, Bomford says he believes True Leaf will become “a significant employer in Lumby.”
